Connecting Strings brings you the second concert of chamber music happening at TS as part of this international festival. The recital encompasses staple and monumental works for cello and piano by three musical giants in the history of music. Originally written for cello and orchestra, Bruch’s ‘Kol Nidrei’ displays a rich, evocative and inspirational setting. The sumptuous cello writing and gloriously assured accompaniment point towards an attractive popularity of Bruch’s works. Spanning all three periods of Beethoven’s life, his Cello Sonatas virtually depict his whole life story. With characteristics of Haydn and Mozart’s style, Beethoven’s Cello Sonata No. 2 is equally a tour de force for piano and sums up the close-knit writing of both instruments. The concert will come to a close with Brahms’ sonorous, playful, progressive Cello Sonata No. 2, a deeply-rooted and important work in the history of chamber music.
